Welcome to my lace art site! As one might guess, bobbin lace is my passion and the most common medium for my artistic work. Delve into my world and feel free to contact me if you have an idea, a need or just want to give me feedback on what I do.

Artist statement

The root of my art is within the bobbin lace making tradition in the town of Rauma. I started in 2005 as a practitioner of the local craft but soon found out that this is the medium of my self-expression. I use not only thread and bobbin lace technique but also a variety of different methods and materials from paint to light and laser cutting to time lapse video.

About Tarmo

I am a visual artist drawing inspiration from the Rauma town’s lace history and culture. By studies I am a master craftsperson and a master of educational sciences. In addition to art I work as a university lecturer in craft education. My academic home is University of Turku.

Bobbin lace making caught me in 2005 and ever since it has been my passion that takes more rounds every year that comes. Writing about myself is not my specialty, so instead I suggest reading something that I didn’t write:
