Lace bins

After making Lace benches for the Rauma city garden unit, I noticed that the trash bin between benches looked rather misplaced, it didn’t fit in. Without asking too much permissions I designed and made a huge lace sticker with a vinyl cutter. As the benches were colored yellow and lace was black, I turned these vice versa on the trash bin: yellow lace (sticker) on black (actually graphite gray).

The first Lace bin next to Lace benches.

Funny thing was, that this bin got so good feedback that the local entrepreneurs’ organization decided to want more. They got me funding and permissions and so I turned this one piece into a series. Within the near vicinity of this first one are six more. As I took colouring for the first one based on the surroundings (the benches) I wanted to continue that. Three were opposite of the Rauma Town hall which is colored salmon red, thus those three laces are also salmon red. Two were next to car road and relatively modern buildings, so those two laces turned gray. The last one was a little off from the others and there was nothing really to match with so for that I picked yellow again as it just happened to appeal my eye. All the six trash bin laces are based on actual bobbin laces. Five are historical samples from the museum’s collection and the sixth one is my teacher’s design from the 1990’s.

Want to see the five other trash bin laces? Then go to Rauma and see them for yourself!
